Alternative Treatment Experiences - Agnes Kerr

I started having spasms in December 2006 and was diagnosed with HFS by a Neurologist in February 2007. The Neurologist recommended Botox®, or possibly MVD surgery. I was told of the possible side effects of both, and decided that was not for me. I found the HFSA on the Internet and learned so much more about treatments, and enjoyed the support of the members.

A member wrote that he had taken Acupuncture and was spasm free for 2 years. I asked my Neurologist to recommend an Acupuncturist, and she recommended a Neurologist/Acupuncturist in my area. I had treatment twice a week for 3 months, starting in February 2007 and the spasms decreased considerably. I then went once a week, then once every 2 weeks for follow up care. I now go for treatment once a month. The spasms are gone, and I have only mild twitches a few times a day. I can live with that.

Acupuncture is not covered by most insurance, including Medicare, and this may stop people from trying this alternative. Mine didn't, so I paid for all treatments. My Doctor is a Neurologist, and I would stress to those that are interested in Acupuncture to choose a M.D. for treatment. I have a lot of confidence in this treatment. Acupuncture works for me with no side effects.
