Botox® Experiences - Joëlle Lemery

I've been suffering from Hemifacial Spasm for 12 years and treated with botulinum toxin for 4 years (Botox and Dysport). Very successful though aesthetic side effect until September 2002 when it started to have no more results.

I was injected on March 2003 and told the dose would be higher. Two days later, I started to feel very weak in my right arm, and after 8 days, I couldn't move my arms or legs. My Neurologist told me that my weakness couldn't be the result of his injections, however I was told the contrary by Ipsen Pharmacovigilance.

After a month, I felt a bit better though weak and with pains in the articulations. After 2 ½ months, My legs are completely cured after a bad period of restless legs at night. I can walk again. The muscles of my neck are very painful and my arms are still weak after effort. HFS is back at 50%.

Except for my Hemifacial Spasm problem, I had always been in good health before, and I think the coincidence is strange. These symptoms appeared while in the meantime HFS disappeared. They started to vanish slowly on the week HFS was back again. I am supposed to have another injection in June 2003 and I still don't know what to do.
