Botox® Experiences - Jim Wallace

II first started taking Botox® in about 2001, at first going every four months, and now every three, or so, months. I have about eight injections around the eye, cheek and lower jaw. They are painful, but bearable. The first time, the dosage must have been too much, as my left eye opened very wide, and at night, really never closed. For that, they suggest using refresh tears pm. The shots do not take full affect until about seven days, and when they do, in my case, I had dryness in my left eye, which caused me to blink. When you use refresh tears, that reduces some of the dryness, but makes things a little blurry and doesn't last very long. The dryness eventually goes away. Refresh tears PM makes things VERY blurry, which is why you can only use them when you are sleeping.

For me, the Botox® totally eliminated the spasms and I've been doing it for six years. But, the Botox® is not stopping the compression on the nerve, which is affecting my smile, so I'm going to move forward with MVD surgery. As a stopgap, I would recommend Botox®. If anything, we reduced the dosage over time as the doctor discovered the correct amount that worked on me, as well as, the correct locations in my face to place the injections.
