Botox® Experiences - Vickie Capps
I was 41 when the twitch started in 1996. I did not try Botox® until around October of 2001. By this time the spasms had gotten so bad that they were pulling on the good side and causing the other eye to close also so I knew it was time to do something.
I go to a wonderful Neurologist who I trust very much. She gives me between 12 to 15 injections between my eyebrows, at crow’s feet, in eyelid, cheek, chin, neck and above the lip. Some say the injections do not hurt, for me they do. To me it is worth it though. I am never spasm free but it is tolerable.
I have gone every 3 months since I first started. At one point in my life I thought I wasn't going to be able to get them due to the cost and I lost my insurance. My doctors office helped me to contact Allergan (the manufacturer) and they were willing to supply the medication as long as it was financially needed, if the doctor waived her fee, which she did until I got to where I was covered again by insurance.
I honestly do not know where I would be right now without the Botox®. If I had a way I would highly consider MVD but for now I have to go with what I can afford. I do know when it is about time for another treatment though without looking at a calendar because the spasms start getting a lot worse again.
Hopefully, this can help someone along the way.
