The Hemifacial Spasm Association (HFSA) is an online support group of current and former sufferers of Hemifacial Spasm (HFS) who offer their personal experiences and personal information to those who are coping with and treating the symptoms of HFS. The members of the HFSA provide information, understanding and hope, in a caring manner, for those who suffer from this affliction. The HFSA welcomes current and former HFS sufferers, including those who have had experience with medications, alternative treatments such as acupuncture, and/or surgery in the treatment of HFS, who wish to share their knowledge with others.2. Costs:
The HFSA is structured similar to a non-profit organization and costs you nothing to become a member. However, a small voluntary contribution may be requested, from time to time, to help cover the costs associated with the website, bulletin board and related Internet costs.3. Obligations:
The only obligations you assume in becoming a HFSA member is to adhere to the following dictates:4. Membership:
Membership in the HFSA is a privilege and the HFSA reserves the right to deny, suspend, or cancel any membership as they deem necessary in order to maintain the harmony of it's membership base.You may, at any time, remove your name and membership from the association. The Internet is an extremely open and public source of information and should be treated as such. With this in mind, do not post or, in any other manner, disseminate personal information of others without their specific authorization to do so. This would include an individual’s personal telephone number, address, etc. Additionally, use discretion in determining the degree to which you share similar personal information. Information contained in your Member Profile and on our entire website is available for viewing by anyone with Internet access. As we continue to grow, it is difficult, if not impossible, to logically follow the flow of posted information using first names only, and consequently, it is requested that you include your first and last name.5.2. Civility:
The primary purpose of the HFSA is to function as an online support group for individuals suffering with Hemifacial Spasm. Therefore, to be successful, it is imperative that we, at all times, be respectful and sensitive to the feelings and opinions of others. We must also be aware of the potential for ambiguities in text communications that could unintentionally offend a fellow member. If a post should offend, or if you are unclear as to the intent, it is best to contact the individual that posted the message privately to clarify the intended meaning of the post. This website is also a forum for the asking and answering of questions, the day-to-day sharing of experiences related to HFS and its treatments and for the support and encouragement of its members. This is accomplished through the exchange of e-mails among members within a shared e-mail group and posts to the bulletin board. Others may view the e-mails and posts previously exchanged among members for their relevance to a sufferer’s condition and/or potential treatment.6.3. Purpose:
The purpose of this website is to provide positive support to HFSA members in their time of emotional anguish, to ask and answer relevant questions, to undertake open and honest discussions, and to share experiences about medications, alternative treatments and/or surgery.6.4. Data Requests, Gathering & Posting:
At the discretion of the Site Moderator, data pertaining to HFSA members may be requested, gathered and posted on the website. Members are under no obligation to provide any requested data. The results will be a compilation of information about HFSA members such as name, age, occupation, onset and elapsed time of HFS, doctors seen, medications taken, etc. The purpose of such compilations is for the benefit of anyone seeking HFS information, including HFS characteristics, medications taken, surgeries undertaken, etc.7.
